LAWRENCE, Kan. - The Kansas women's golf team posted a 12-under 564 after 36 holes on Monday at the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational at Lawrence Country Club. The Jayhawks carded 10-under 278 in the afternoon round and lead the 12-team field by 15 strokes heading into Tuesday's final 18 holes.
Kansas has three players – seniors
Johanna Ebner and
Lily Hirst and junior
Amy DeKock – that are tied for first with two others at 5-under (139) in the 66-golfer field.
"Today was about playing with courage, we're super excited to play at home and so grateful for all the support that we had." Kansas head coach
Lindsay Kuhle said. "We had fun, we had great energy and played with a lot of courage and heart and that is what we made today about."
Kent State sits in second at +3, followed by Missouri (+5), San Francisco (+15), and Central Arkansas (+16) to round out the top five. The Kansas B squad sits sixth in the field at +19 (295) and is three shots behind Central Arkansas.
ROUND ONE
DeKock led the way for the Jayhawks in round one with a score of 68 (-4) and finished the round in first place. DeKock was able to card four birdies on the front nine, while following up with another birdie and an eagle on the back nine.
Hirst was able to rally back after a rough start to her round and rattled off five birdies and zero bogeys on the back nine. Hirst scored a 70 (-2) and finished tied for third after the first round.
Ebner finished her round with a score of 73 (+1). Ebner posted two birdies and 14 pars in a consistent round for the senior.
Sophomore
Lyla Louderbaugh got her first action of the season and shot a 75 (+3) in the first round.
Senior
Jordan Rothman carded a 76 (+4) in her first round of the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational.
ROUND TWO
Ebner led the way for the Jayhawks in round two posting a career low 66 (-6), which ties for the third lowest individual round in Kansas history. Ebner was able to card six birdies in her bogeyless round and now sits tied for first at 5-under place going into the final round.
"She's been so consistent for us this fall and she came back after this summer ready to go," Kuhle said of Ebner. "She had a great summer and won a couple national amateur events and was ready to go. She has matured a ton since she's been here."
Hirst and DeKock both continued their success in round two finishing alongside Ebner in first place. Hirst carded two birdies on the front nine, and followed up with a bogeyless back nine to finish with a 69 (-3) for her second round. DeKock finished her round with a score of 71 (-1) after posting six birdies in the afternoon round.
Rothman put together an impressive four birdies on the back nine on her way to 72 (E), and now sits tied for 22nd place at +4.
Louderbaugh sits tied for 38th place overall at +9 after posting a 78 (+6) in round two.
"We need to stay patient and keep doing the same thing," Kuhle said. "We've had success playing with patience, courage and aggressiveness. We need to continue to do that and not let the foot off the gas."
Kansas' B team was led by junior Ruth Townnessen (71-74--145) who sits tied for 12
th at 1-over. Junior

th at +2 after two rounds.
