LAWRENCE, Kan. – Redshirt freshman goalkeeper
Sophie Dawe was named to the Freshman Best XI Second Team by TopDrawerSoccer on Wednesday. Dawe is the first Jayhawk in program history to be named to a Freshman Best XI team.
Â
Dawe stepped into the starting goalkeeper role this season after redshirting in 2023. She started 22 matches and recorded eight solo shutouts. Dawe posted a 0.86 goals against average in 2024, which was the lowest in the Big 12 this season. The Memphis, Tennessee, native allowed only four goals in the final nine matches of the season as the Jayhawks made a run to the NCAA Tournament.
Â
Dawe finished the season with eight solo shutouts. That was the fourth-most in the conference and the most by a Kansas goalkeeper since Sarah Peters in 2019.
Â
She also received Big 12 All-Tournament Team and Most Outstanding Defensive Player of the tournament, along with Big 12 Freshman of the Week honors twice.
Â
Two other Jayhawks have been honored with a spot on TopDrawerSoccer Best XI teams with Addisyn Merrick earning third team honors in 2019 and Liana Salazar being awarded a spot on the third team in 2014.
Â
Kansas finished the season by winning its second Big 12 Tournament in program history and qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the 10th time in school history. The Jayhawks concluded the season with an overall record of 13-6-4 and a 6-4-1 mark in conference play. Kansas was picked to finish tied for 12th in the Big 12 preseason poll.
