LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Kansas women's tennis team defeated Wichita State (5-2) and Omaha (7-0) Friday to move to 5-0 on the season. The 5-0 start is the program's best start since the 2015-16 season.
"It was a great battle this morning with Wichita State. They gave us everything that we could handle and we were fortunate to come out on the positive side of things," head coach Todd Chapman said. "Credit to Omaha, I thought they competed really hard tonight. They gave us nothing for free and we had to earn the second match as well. At the end of the day, it just comes down to competing and fighting and the tennis will get better. But those were things that we hope are staples of our program, so it was good to see that. We're excited about where we are at this point, and we're gonna rest up the next couple days and get ready for two tough matches next weekend."
Kansas opened up the day by winning the doubles point against Wichita State. The pair of Gracie Mulville and Heike Janse Van Vuuren, ranked No. 53, won their fourth match of the season by defeating Xin Tong Wang and Giorgia Roselli, 6-3.
