LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas tennis suffered its first loss of the season to Wisconsin, 7-0, inside the Jayhawk Tennis Center in Lawrence, Kansas on Friday evening.Â
"That wasn't a competitive fight that this program is built around and wasn't what should be expected." head coach Todd Chapman said. "But credit to Wisconsin. They took it to us and didn't let up. They were the better team by far today. I just think we have to have tough conversations about what that was and why that was and be willing to be honest with whatever those answers are. We have a quick turnaround and gotta be ready for a really good Arkansas team on Sunday and we have to be prepared to show up and compete."
The Jayhawks battled in doubles action but came up short as Wisconsin took the doubles point. The Jayhawk pair of Gracie Mulville and Heike Janse van Vuuren, ranked No. 52, suffered their first loss of the season as they fell to Maria Sholokhova and Ariel Johnson, 4-6. In No. 3 doubles, Kansas' Yerkezhan Arystanbekova and Anna Putilina also fell for the first time this season as they were defeated by Parker Christensen and Ekaterina Ivanova, 4-6.Â
Kyoka Kubo and Jasmine Adams were leading 6-5 against Wisconsin's Taylor Cataldi and Ellison Reynoldson, ranked No. 37, but the match went unfinished.
