Kansas (9-3-3, 3-3-1 in Big 12) played No. 24 West Virginia to a 2-2 tie on Thursday night at Rock Chalk Park. Freshmen Jordan Rowan and Becca Smith scored goals in the draw. Rowan scored her fourth goal of the season and leads all Kansas freshmen, while Smith scored her third goal of the year.
"Our group showed a lot of fight on Thursday night, and that's the kind of effort that we need to have as the season winds down," Kansas head coach Nate Lie said. "We're not necessarily satisfied with the draw, but we'll certainly take the result against a good opponent. We shift our focus to Cincinnati on Sunday as we look to pick up another conference win."
The Jayhawks are currently ranked 17th in RPI. Kansas currently sits in a tie for seventh place in the Big 12 Conference standings with a 3-3-1 record and has 10 points. The top eight teams in the conference qualify for the Big 12 Tournament, which will be played from Nov. 3-8.Â
