LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas will begin its trip to Utah as the Jayhawks travel to Provo, Utah, for a matchup with BYU on Thursday, Oct. 23. Thursday's match will begin at 8 p.m. CT from South Field and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
Kansas (10-3-3, 4-3-1 in Big 12) defeated Cincinnati 1-0 on Sunday at Rock Chalk Park. Lexi Watts scored the lone goal of the contest with Jillian Gergeorski and Kate Langfelder picking up assists on the goal.
The Jayhawks held Cincinnati to zero shots on goal on Sunday. It is only the second time in school history that Kansas did not allow a shot on goal to a Big 12 opponent, with the last time coming on Oct. 11, 2002 vs. Oklahoma State.
"We picked up an important three points on Sunday, but we need to carry that momentum into Thursday with an important match at BYU," Kansas head coach Nate Lie. "Every game and every point is crucial, and we're focused on playing our best soccer as the season winds down."
Jordan Rowan received her first career Big 12 weekly award as she was chosen as the Big 12 Co-Freshman of the Week on Wednesday. She scored her fourth goal of the season against then-No. 24 West Virginia on Oct. 16. She is third on the team in goals scored and leads all Kansas freshmen in goals (4) and points (9) this season.
The Jayhawks are currently ranked 15th in RPI. Kansas currently sits in a tie for sixth place in the Big 12 Conference standings with a 4-3-1 record and 13 points. The top eight teams in the conference qualify for the Big 12 Tournament, which will be played from Nov. 3-8.
Lexi Watts is tied for seventh in the Big 12 and leads Kansas with seven goals. Jillian Gregorski is tied for ninth in the Big 12 with six goals. Watts also leads Kansas in points with 16. Caroline Castans is tied for 15th in the country and third in the Big 12 with eight assists.
ABOUT BYU
BYU has a record of 8-4-3 (3-3-2 in Big 12) as the Cougars played No. 21 Colorado to a 2-2 draw at home on Monday. BYU is led by junior forward Ellie Walbruch who has tallied 21 points this season on 10 goals and one assist.
SERIES HISTORY
Kansas and BYU will meet for the seventh time in women's soccer on Thursday. BYU leads the series 4-1-1, with the last matchup being a 2-2 draw on Oct. 10, 2024 in Lawrence.
