LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas soccer freshman
Becca Smith received her first career Big 12 weekly honor as she was chosen as the Big 12 Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday.Â
A native of White Bear Lake, Minnesota, Smith scored her first two career goals in a dominant 4-1 victory against Kansas State on Oct. 2. One of those goals was the game-winning goal as she tallied four points in the match. Smith became the 10th different goal scorer for Kansas this season, and is the fourth freshman to score a goal this season for the Jayhawks.
Smith is the 25th Jayhawk in program history to receive Big 12 Freshman of the Week honors. She joins Mary Sola, who was awarded Big Co-Freshman of the Week on Sept. 3, and Caroline Castans, who earned Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 24 to receive conference honors this year.
Kansas (8-3-2, 2-3-0 Big 12) will travel to Ames, Iowa, to match up against Iowa State on Friday, Oct. 10. The match is slated for 6 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
