LA QUINTA, Calif. – The Kansas women's golf team sits alone in second place at 12-under after the first 36 holes of the Yale Invitational West. The Jayhawks posted rounds of 280 (-8) and 284 (-4) and were led by Lauren Clark and Lily Hirst, who both sit inside the top 10 individually.Â
Â
"We finished at 12 under on the day, we got off to a great start and I think we were 11 under through 11 holes which was fun. This course is a pretty demanding course, where there's just a lot of deep bunkers throughout the fairway and you really need to strike it well off the tee to put yourself in a good position in the fairway, and we did that today. I think we're in a great position for tomorrow and we're feeling confident."Â Head Coach Lindsay Kuhle said.Â
No. 15 North Carolina leads the 12-team field at 22-under. The Jayhawks sit 10 shots back heading into Tuesday's final round and hold a six-shot lead over third-place Princeton (-6).Â
ROUND ONEÂ
The opening round consisted of a pair of 69s from the duo of Clark and Hirst. Clark went -3 on her first three holes, which included an eagle on the second hole, followed by a birdie on the third.Â
Hirst was steady in the first round, carding four birdies and allowing just one bogey.Â
Senior Johanna Ebner was also under par in the opening round, carding a 2-under 70 which consisted of five birdies.Â
Junior Amy DeKock recorded two birdies and two bogeys for an even-par 72, while sophomore Lyla Louderbaugh, competing as an individual, also posted a 72 with four birdies.Â
Freshman Ebba Nordstedt opened her tournament with a 73 (+1), which included three birdies.Â
ROUND TWOÂ
Clark stayed hot in Monday's second round, firing her second consecutive 69. She opened with birdies on holes one and two, then carded three straight birdies on holes 10, 11 and 12. Clark's six birdies in the round put her alone in fourth place at 6-under.Â
Hirst, currently tied for ninth at 3-under, followed her opening-round 69 with a steady even-par 72 in the second round.Â
Nordstedt rebounded from her opening-round 73 with a 1-under 71 in the second round, being the only other Jayhawk to finish under par for the second round. Nordstedt shares a tie for 20th with DeKock at E.Â
DeKock delivered another steady performance in the second round, carding her second consecutive even-par 72.Â
Ebner sits in a tie for 34th after a 77 in the second round, sitting at +3 for the event.Â
