SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The Kansas men's golf team wrapped up day one of the Desert Mountain Collegiate on Saturday, shooting a team score of 286 (-2) to open the event. The second round of the event was cut short due to darkness and will resume Sunday morning with the final round following.
Due to weather conditions, Saturday's opening round was delayed until 10:30 a.m. CT.Â
"We played okay the first round," said head coach Jamie Bermel. "Gunnar, Luke and Max were solid and struggled to get a 4th score. Second round we looked a little tired and made some sloppy bogeys and 3 doubles which are very costly. We have 26-28 holes left on Sunday and we need to get off to a good start and see if we can't make a move up the leaderboard. Felix is playing well as the Indy and seems to be gaining some good experience."
The Jayhawks were led by senior Gunnar Broin's four-under round of 68 in the opening round, which consisted of six birdies, four of which came on the back nine. Â
Junior Luke Honner put together five birdies on the front nine and finished with a round of 70 (-2). Sophomore Max Jelinek posted a 71 (-1), freshman Ty Lasley shot a 77 (+5) and sophomore Noah Holtzman a 79 (+7).Â
Freshman Felix Bouchard is competing for Kansas as the individual and shot an opening round 69 (-3), his second career round in the 60s as a Jayhawk. Â
The second round of the Desert Mountain Collegiate was cut short due to darkness and will continue Sunday in a shotgun start format at 8:30 a.m. CT.Â
