HOCKLEY, Texas – The Kansas women's golf team is tied for 9th place after the opening round of the Big 12 Championship, shooting a team score of 299 (+15) on Tuesday at Houston Oaks.
"We really didn't get off to a great start at all, just didn't play with confidence and didn't look comfortable out there when we started," said Kansas head coach
Lindsay Kuhle. "However, we gave a little push to finish and we have two more opportunities so we're looking forward to that."
Iowa State and Arizona are tied for the lead at 285 (+1), followed by Houston (+4), Oklahoma State (+5), UCF (+9) and TCU (+9) to round out the top five.
Freshman
Ebba Nordstedt led the way for the Jayhawks in the opening round, recording two birdies and firing a 73 (+2). Nordstedt sits tied for 18th place.
Sophomore
Lyla Louderbaugh was able to rattle off back-to-back brides on holes three and four, en route to a score of 74 (+3), where she sits tied for 27th place.
"Really proud of our underclassmen who haven't seen this course and haven't played here before." Coach Kuhle adds.
Senior
Lauren Clark put together an impressive performance on her last nine holes, going 1-under to shoot a 75 (+4). Clark is tied for 39th place heading into the second round.
Junior
Amy DeKock finished her opening round with a score of 77 (+6), and is tied for 49th place.
Senior
Lily Hirst carded three birdies on the day and shot a 79 (+8). Hirst sits tied for 61st place.
