BREMERTON, Wash. – The Kansas men's golf team followed up its opening-round 297 (+9) with a 295 (+7) on Tuesday at Gold Mountain Golf Club and sits in 10th place at +16 through 36 holes at the NCAA Bremerton Regional.Â
"We were cruising along and then played the last four holes 8-over as a team. We can't do that and expect to have a good round," said Kansas head coach Jamie Bermel. "We were in a great position to start and now it is going to have to be a great round of golf on Wednesday. It has been our issue all year, struggling to get a fourth score. We will need everyone playing well on Wednesday to see what we can do."Â
Florida continues to lead the 14-team regional with a score of -25, followed by Arizona State (-16), South Carolina (-2), Colorado (+1) and Kansas State (+6) rounding out the top five of the team standings.Â
Kansas was led Tuesday by junior Luke Honner, who fired a bogey-free, 1-under 71 that featured 17 pars and a birdie on the 467-yard, par-4 17th. His steady round moved him up 11 spots on the individual leaderboard, where he's currently tied for 21st at +1 for the tournament.Â
Sophomore Max Jelinek tallied a team-high five birdies en route to an even-par 72. He climbed 12 spots on the leaderboard and now sits in a tie for 40th.Â
Senior Gunnar Broin bounced back after a tough start, making bogeys on three of his first four holes before rallying with three birdies over his final 14. He carded a 1-over 73 and is the top Jayhawk on the individual leaderboard, tied for 16th at even par through two rounds.Â
Freshman Ty Lasley shot a 79 (+7) and is tied for 68th at +13, while junior Will King posted an 80 (+8) and sits tied for 65th at +11.Â
The Jayhawks will tee it up Wednesday in the final round, aiming for a top-five team finish to secure a spot at the NCAA Championship in Carlsbad, Calif., May 23–28. The lowest individual from a non-advancing team will also qualify for nationals. Kansas is 10 shots back of fifth place.Â
