LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas junior
Lyla Louderbaugh won the final three holes to force a playoff in her semifinal match against Brooke Bierman at the 2025 U.S. Women's Amateur Championship at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Bandon, Oregon, Saturday. Bierman would win the first playoff hole, advancing to the event's championship match and ending Louderbaugh's quest for the title.
Saturday's battle marked the second-straight match Louderbaugh competed in as the Buffalo, Missouri, native knocked out the No. 1 amateur in the world, Kiara Romero, in the second playoff hole of Friday's quarterfinals.
"It was an awesome week here at Bandon," Louderbaugh said following her semifinal match. "I had so much fun and I'm really proud of myself and how I performed."
In Saturday's semifinal, Louderbaugh lost two straight holes to go two down through six. The lefthanded golfer would cut the deficit to one, winning the seventh hole. The two competitors would keep close until hole 13 where Bierman would win two of the next three to go three up after 15 holes. Louderbaugh would not go down without a fight and would win the final three holes in regulation to force a playoff.
"I knew I had to make some moves those last three holes," Louderbaugh said. "When I had a par putt to win the hole on 16, I knew it was a left to right and if I gave it a good putt, it would go in, and it did. And then on 17 it (the putt) was just straight uphill, a little left to right, and I was also confident because it was a left to righter, and so I made that. I had a 35-footer on 18. I didn't know where it was going, I was just going to aim left and hopefully it was going to go in the hole. It was a perfect line, a little firm, but ended up in the bottom of the cup."
Louderbaugh will next join her KU teammates as KU fall classes begin August 18. Kansas will open the fall season hosting the Jayhawk Invitational, August 24-25, at The Jayhawk Club in Lawrence, Kansas.
