LAWRENCE, Kan. –
Ella Boyer has been named Big 12 Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon, after a standout performance at the plate. She becomes the first Kansas Jayhawk to earn a weekly conference honor this season and the first KU player to be recognized in the Big 12 weekly awards since the 2024 season.
"I am so excited for Ella," said head coach
Jennifer McFalls. "She has been a consistent hitter for us all spring and a difference-maker offensively. She has also been really solid behind the plate and continues to grow as a player every day."
Boyer powered the Jayhawks offensively across four games, hitting .500 (6-for-12) with six runs scored, three home runs, one double, and nine RBI while posting a 1.333 slugging percentage and .600 on-base percentage. She opened the week with a statement performance in Kansas' 9-1 win at Wichita State, going 2-for-3 with two home runs and four RBIs.
Boyer continued her surge during the Utah State series, playing a key role in Kansas' three-game sweep. She launched a home run and drove in four runs in the 18-2 victory while scoring three times, helping power one of the Jayhawks' most explosive offensive performances of the weekend. Boyer stayed hot in the series finale, going 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI in the 14-0 run-rule win, reaching base in all three games of the series and consistently producing in the middle of the lineup.
On the season, Boyer leads Kansas with eight home runs and ranks among the top hitters in the Big 12. She currently sits first in the conference and 18th nationally in home runs per game while ranking 15th nationally in total home runs. Boyer also ranks fifth in the Big 12 in both RBI and slugging percentage, helping power a Kansas offense that has been among the most productive in the conference. Her breakout week and consistent power production played a key role in the Jayhawks' success and earned her the conference's top weekly honor.
Kansas will look to carry that momentum into its first Big 12 series of the season as the Jayhawks face Houston, March 13–15.
