Kansas Opens Hawkeye Invitational With 58 Points

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Kansas finished the first day of the Hawkeye Invitational on Tuesday with 58 points, tying Iowa and Illinois for fourth place in the nine-team meet.
"We had a really strong start to the meet," said head coach Clark Campbell. "All relays were under their season best times so we're ready to go for the rest of the way."
Kansas opened the meet in the 200-yard medley relay, where the Jayhawks posted a 1:39.50 time to place fourth. The relay team featured senior Lydia Lafferty, junior Ryan Johnston, sophomore Anna Gearhart and senior Caroline Blake. The Jayhawks finished just 13 milliseconds behind the third-place team.
Kansas closed the night with a fifth-place finish in the 800-yard freestyle relay. Sophomore Gabi Dyer, freshman Ivy Solt, senior Hailey Farrell and freshman Sammy Cummins combined for a time of 7:17.02.
Day two of the four-day invitational continues Wednesday, Nov. 19th, with prelims beginning at 10 a.m. CT and finals at 5 p.m. CT.
