SEA ISLAND, Ga. – After just 12 holes of play, the Kansas men's golf team sits in third place at +4 in the Johnnie-O at Sea Island tournament, held at Sea Island Golf Resort.
High winds shortened Monday's play to just 12 holes instead of the scheduled 36. Kansas sits in third place on the leaderboard at +4, while Marquette leads as the only team under par at -1. Nebraska holds second place at +1.
"We hung in there today in fairly tough conditions. It's good to see Will King back and playing. He looked a little tournament rusty, but settled in and birdied his last hole of the day," Kansas head coach Jamie Bermel said. "Gunnar (Broin) looked good and shot about as high a score possible. Luke (Honner) and Max (Jelinek) played fairly steady as well. Less wind on Tuesday and still have 24 holes of golf. We need to be ready to play as we don't have a lot of holes left."
Gunnar Broin leads the Jayhawks through the first 12 holes, carding two birdies and nine pars to finish the day at one under par.
Max Jelinek played steady golf, sitting at one over par after 12 holes. His round was highlighted by a birdie on the 171-yard, par-three sixth hole.
Luke Honner also recorded two birdies and finished the day at two over par.
King, making his spring season debut, posted eight pars and a closing birdie to also sit at two over par heading into day two.
Noah Holtzman and Felix Bouchard, competing as an individual, both finished at six over par. Bouchard ended his round on a strong note with two birdies in his final three holes.
