LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas men's golf has signed its second transfer addition of the offseason as head coach
Jamie Bermel announced the signing of Will Baker, a transfer from Clemson who will be a junior for the Jayhawks during the 2025-26 season.
"I think Will has the chance to play right away," Bermel said. "He hasn't got a lot of reps at his former school but has had a really nice summer to date. I think he wanted an opportunity and will come in ready to play. We are excited to have him join the Jayhawks golf family."
Baker has spent two seasons at Clemson, where he has competed in five tournaments and played 15 rounds. He comes to Kansas with a career stroke average of 74.27, including a best round of 70, which he has accomplished three times. Baker's top finish was 36th at the Sharkey Individual in Statesboro, Georgia on Feb. 3-4, 2024.
Prior to Clemson, Baker had a decorated prep career as he led Prince Avenue Christian School to three consecutive state titles, including the first in school history. He finished in the top three individually during each championship run, including shooting a 141 to win the 2023 medalist honors at the Georgia Class A state tournament. Baker also received national acclaim through a Golf Digest article when he made a hole-in-one on a par four hold during tournament play in April 2023.
From Statham, Georgia, Baker was one of six high school players to qualify for the 2022 US Amateur. He won two American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) events in 2021 before finishing fifth at the Bobby Chapman and 10th at the Taylor Made Invitational in 2022. During the summer of 2023, he finished third at the Arnold Palmer Junior in his final junior tournament. Baker was ranked as the No. 66 junior in the nation when he signed collegiately and he was ranked No. 88 overall and the No. 3 player in Georgia in August of 2023, just before he started his college career.
Baker becomes the third member of KU's 2025-26 recruiting class, joining previous transfer Hartej Grewal of UC Riverside, who signed in June, and freshman Arthur Carlier of Soissons, France, who signed last November.
