LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Led by a runner-up finish from sophomore Hartej Grewal, the Kansas men's golf team tied for sixth place at the Windon Memorial Classic, played at Knollwood Club on Monday and Tuesday.
The Jayhawks shot scores of 282-274-292-848 (-16), which was highlighted by the lowest 18-hole score of the field with a 14-under in Monday's second round.Â
Illinois led the way with a score of 828 (-36), followed by New Mexico (-30), Ohio State (-21), Northwestern (-18), and Notre Dame (-17) to round out the top five.Â
"Not a very good day for the Jayhawks, we were 5 over par after the first hole and really couldn't get anything going. Hartej was solid all day, but couldn't get the Individual win." Head coach Jamie Bermel said. "We need to be better on the final day. We played really well yesterday and look worn out mentally today. Back to practice on Wednesday and get to work and get better."
Grewal led the way for the Jayhawks, finishing the tournament with scores of 68-66-72 to shoot 10-under. Grewal put together an impressive tournament, carding a team-high 18 birdies and recording his best finish of the year with a tie for second place. Grewal was the only Jayhawk to card three rounds of even par or better throughout the tournament.Â
