
Jayhawks Advance 17 to Finals, Total 325 Points on Second Day in Iowa

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Jayhawks wrapped up day two of the Hawkeye Invitational with 17 student-athletes qualifying for finals in their events, 12 lifetime best times, and continued their fourth-place standing with 325 points.
"We had another strong day," head coach Clark Campbell said. "Lots of second swims, season and lifetime best times. We were stronger today and will keep the momentum going into tomorrow."
Six Jayhawks advanced to the finals of the 500-yard freestyle: sophomore Gabi Dyer (PR: 4:46.72), freshman Ivy Solt (4:56.09), sophomore Tait Haag (4:57.52), junior Bradie Ward (4:58.93), freshman Sammy Cummins (PR: 4:59.37), and sophomore Taylor Cloutman (5:01.52).
Five qualified for the 200-yard IM final: senior Hailey Farrell (PR: 2:01.98), sophomore Maya Lambert (2:05.70), freshman Madison Wagner (2:05.76), senior Aidan Howze (2:06.87), and sophomore Alayna Henage (2:07.15).
In the 50-yard freestyle, freshman Sarah Blake (PR: 23.22), sophomore Sophie Wallace (23.38), senior Caroline Blake (23.43), and senior Lydia Lafferty (PR 23.54) advanced to finals.
In diving, junior Shiyun Lai qualified for the 1-meter final with 310.65 points and senior Lize van Leeuwen earned a finals spot with 278.80.
In the evening finals, Kansas opened with two top-10 finishes in the 500-yard freestyle. Dyer placed 3rd with 4:48.52 and Solt finished 10th with 4:50.67. Haag at 18th, Ward at 20th, Cummins at 23rd, and Cloutman at 30th all contributed lifetime bests for the Jayhawks as well.
Farrell led Kansas in the 200-yard IM with an 8th place finish and lifetime best of 2:03.36. Wagner (2:03.40) placing 17th and Lambert (2:03.97) placing closely behind at 19th, also both recorded personal bests. Henage placed 28th and Howze at 31st in the event.
Sarah Blake finished 12th in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.14, adding to lifetime bests of the night. Caroline Blake followed in 21st, Wallace in 22nd, separated by just four milliseconds. Lafferty set her personal record (23.32) in the event to claim 25th.
Kansas closed out the swimming events with a sixth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Lafferty, Wallace, and the Blake sisters combined for a time of 1:31.80. Dyer (1:48.37) and Cloutman (1:51.32) added to their personal bests for their respective relay teams.
Lai delivered Kansas' first event win of the invitational thus far with a 318.85 score on the 1-meter board. Van Leeuwen finished fourth with 290.55.
Day 3 of the four-day invitational continues Thursday, Nov. 20th, with prelims at 10 a.m. CT and finals at 5 p.m. CT.
