WICHITA, Kan. – Kansas softball is set to travel to Wichita for a standalone midweek matchup against in-state rival Wichita State on Wednesday, April 30. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT at Wilkins Softball Stadium.
"Wichita State is a great program, they are always a tough opponent to play," said head coach Jennifer McFalls. "I think both teams are very similar so it will be a great matchup and a tough midweek matchup."
The Jayhawks are coming off a hard-fought home series against No. 23 Oklahoma State, where they secured their first conference home win and first ranked win of the season. Oklahoma State claimed the first two games of the series—4-0 in the opener and 4-2 in extra innings in game two. Kansas bounced back in the finale, earning a 3-2 victory behind a complete-game performance from senior Katie Brooks, who also recorded her 200th career strikeout in the effort.
In the series finale, Brooks delivered a strong performance, allowing just two runs on five hits while striking out two and walking three over seven innings. The Jayhawks' offense came alive in the sixth inning with a three-run home run from Olivia Bruno—her 10th of the season—that gave Kansas the lead for good. Defensively, the Jayhawks were flawless, posting a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage through all seven innings to secure the win.
At the plate, Kansas features a balanced lineup with four hitters batting above .300: juniors Presley Limbaugh (.373), Hailey Cripe (.352), Aynslee Linduff (.312), and senior Olivia Bruno (.306). Limbaugh leads the team in hits (53), doubles (10), and triples (2), while Bruno is the power threat with a team-high 10 home runs and 38 RBIs.
In the circle, the Jayhawks rely on experienced arms. Brooks leads the team in starts (14), wins (7), and innings pitched (76.1), while Bruno paces the staff with a 3.05 ERA, five complete games, and 41 strikeouts. Additional support comes from junior Lizzy Ludwig and freshmen Kaelee Washington and Kennedy Diggs.
