LAWRENCE, Kan. – No. 14 Kansas soccer is back at home to face Baylor on Thursday, Sept. 25, in their first home Big 12 game of the season. Thursday's match will begin at 6 p.m. CT from Rock Chalk Park and be broadcast on ESPN+.
Kansas opened Big 12 play with a 1-0 victory over Oklahoma State on Sept. 18 to improve to 7-0-2 on the year. The Jayhawks earned a red card in the 33rd minute, which put KU down a player for the remainder of the match, but Caroline Castans was able to find the net in the 56th minute for the lone goal of the game.Â
Kansas is now unbeaten through nine matches, which is the longest unbeaten streak in program history.Â
"This will be our first time playing Baylor since I've arrived as coach," Kansas head coach Nate Lie said. "They have a good identity as a program, and they've added a lot of talent to their roster. So it'll be a challenging match for us."
Castans was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week and earned a spot on the TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week for her efforts in the win over OSU. This is the second time in her career that Castans received both honors, earning both last season on the week of Oct. 28, 2024.Â
Kansas remained in both national polls this week, as the Jayhawks moved up to No. 14 in the United Soccer Coaches poll and No. 9 in the TopDrawerSoccer poll. The United Soccer Coaches ranking is KU's highest since Oct. 20, 2020, when the Jayhawks reached No. 8 in the poll. This is the fourth straight week Kansas has been in the TDS poll.Â
Castans is 3rd in the Big 12 and tied for 24th in the country in assists with five. Jillian Gregorski leads the team in shots on goal with 13 and Lexi Watts leads the Jayhawks with five goals and 11 points logged on the year.Â
