NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Head coach
Nate Lie won his 100th career game as No. 22 Kansas remained unbeaten on Sunday with the Jayhawks dominating Yale in a 4-0 shutout win at Reese Stadium. The victory is the first on the road this season and the third shutout of the year for Kansas.
Livvy Moore,
Jordan Rowan,
Lexi Watts and
Saige Wimes all scored in the win.
"This was a good professional performance by our team,"Â Lie said. "I thought the first road game of the year, we didn't show up particularly well. This was a tough opponent, we kept the ball away from them, and we kept the game on our terms."
No. 22 Kansas (5-0-2) started off hot as Moore forced a Yale turnover just outside the 18-yard box and dribbled it towards the net for a shot at the near post and past the goalkeeper. The goal gave Kansas a 1-0 advantage less than seven minutes into the match. The goal was the second of her Jayhawk career.Â
The Jayhawks kept the pressure on the Bulldogs in the first half. In the 38th minute, Jocelyn Herrema took the ball from a Yale defender and crossed it to Jordan Rowan in the center of the box, who shot the ball into an empty net between the goalkeeper and defender to score her third goal of the season. Kansas led 2-0 at the half.
The scoring didn't stop there as Kansas kept the momentum going in the second half. In the 57th minute, Lexi Watts received a pass from midfield by Moore, dribbled the ball into the box, and put it past the goalkeeper to net her fifth goal of the season and to increase the lead to 3-0.
Yale (2-3-0) had a couple opportunities in the second half but was unable to capitalize.
Kansas tacked on one last goal in the 82nd minute of the match. Molly Shepherd passed the ball to Caroline Castans who crossed the ball into the middle of the box where Saige Wimes directed a header into the back of the net to score her first goal of the season and take a 4-0 lead.
The Jayhawks outshot Yale 19-3 and held a 10-2 advantage in shots on goal. The three shots were the fewest by an opponent this season. Moore led the Jayhawks with three points, and Sophie Dawe and Addison Tauscher combined for the shutout win.Â
