LAWRENCE, Kan. –
Ella Boyer has been named Big 12 Freshman of the Week for the second consecutive week, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon, after another dominant showing at the plate. Boyer becomes the first Kansas Jayhawk this season to earn multiple weekly honors and continues to lead the Jayhawks' offensive surge early in conference play.
"Ella has been a force for us from day one, and it's great to see her hard work pay off," head coach Jennifer McFalls said. "She delivers in big moments and keeps our lineup moving. This honor is well-deserved."
Boyer continued her standout freshman campaign with a huge weekend against Houston, hitting .500 (4-for-8) with six runs scored, three home runs, one double and seven RBI while posting a 1.750 slugging percentage and .692 on-base percentage. She reached base nine times in the three-game series and totaled 14 bases, playing a key role in Kansas' series win.
She opened the weekend with a 2-for-2 performance, reaching base five times while recording a double, a home run, two RBI and three runs scored. In the second game of the series, an 18-1 run-rule victory, Boyer hit her 10th home run of the season before adding another later in the game to push her total to 11. She capped off the weekend with another home run in the series finale, bringing her season total to 12. Her two-home run performance in the 18-1 win also contributed to a program record for most home runs in a single game.
On the season, Boyer leads Kansas with 12 home runs and continues to rank among the top power hitters in the Big 12 and nationally. Her consistent production and ability to deliver in key moments have been instrumental in Kansas' success, making her a clear choice for back-to-back conference honors.
Kansas will look to carry that momentum into its next Big 12 series as the Jayhawks host Utah at Arrocha Ballpark from March 20–22.
