LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas softball plays its last home game of the year, as the Jayhawks take on Wichita State on Tuesday, April 28. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. CT from Arrocha Ballpark, and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
Kansas (32–16, 13-8 Big 12) is coming off its sixth Big 12 series win of the year, having won two of three games against Iowa State over the weekend. The Jayhawk offense continues to shine as it ranks in the top three in the Big 12 in batting average (.339), doubles (84), home runs (73), total bases (723), slugging percentage (.610) and on-base percentage (.429). Kansas also ranks in the top five in the Big 12 in runs (316), hits (402), RBIs (299) and hit batters (36). The Jayhawks currently sit in fourth in the Big 12 with a 6-1 conference series record, and have won seven of their last eight series overall.
"We have one non-conference game left with Wichita State," Kansas head coach Jennifer McFalls said. "They're playing really well right now as well, so that's always going to be a tough matchup."
In the series against Iowa State, Kansas won game one 12-2 in five innings. In the win, offensively, Presley Limbaugh went a perfect 3-3 with three runs scored, and Anna Soles went 2-3 with three RBIs, two runs scored and hit her 10th home run of the season. In the circle, Lila Partridge threw a complete game, giving up two runs, only one earned, on three hits and two strikeouts. After losing game two 4-1, Kansas won the rubber match 4-2 in eight innings after Soles hit a walk-off two-run home run, her 11th of the season. Partridge picked up the win in game three as well, throwing two innings in relief, giving up no runs and only one hit.Â
Wichita State (32-15, 18-6 AAC) enters the game tied for first in the American Athletic Conference standings. The Shockers rank among the best offenses in the AAC, leading the conference in batting average (.313), home runs (79), RBIs (277), total bases (725), slugging percentage (.553), walks (195) and on-base percentage (.412). Wichita State is led by sophomore utility player Ausha Moore, who leads the team in batting average (.394), OPS (1.505), runs (46), home runs (20), RBIs (51), total bases (118), slugging percentage (.929) and walks (43).
