LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas freshman
Ella Boyer has been named Big 12 Freshman of the Week for the third time this season, the conference announced Wednesday. She is the first Jayhawk this year to earn three weekly honors and continues to anchor Kansas' offensive attack in conference play.
"Ella's impact extends far beyond her stats," said head coach Jennifer McFalls. "Her power, consistency, and confidence at the plate energize the entire lineup. Being recognized as Big 12 Freshman of the Week for a third time is a testament to the hard work she puts in every day and her importance to Kansas softball."
Boyer dominated offensively in the Jayhawks' three-game series against Arizona State, hitting .750 (6-for-8) with six runs, three home runs, and six RBI. She got off to a strong start with a 3-for-4 performance, a home run, and three RBI in the 11-7 win, added another multi-hit game with a home run in the second matchup, and capped the series with a go-ahead home run in the 5-4 victory, reaching base in all four plate appearances, including three walks.
Her three home runs during the series pushed Boyer to 17 on the season, making her the first freshman in Kansas history to hit 17 home runs in a single season, setting a new program freshman record. Behind the plate, she was flawless, posting a 1.000 fielding percentage with seven putouts.
This season, Boyer leads the Jayhawks with a .377 batting average, .489 on-base percentage, .925 slugging percentage, 17 home runs, 52 RBI, and 40 hits, establishing herself as a cornerstone of the lineup. Her efforts helped Kansas secure the program's first-ranked series conference win since 2024.
Kansas will look to keep the momentum rolling into its next Big 12 series against Baylor at Arrocha Ballpark, April 10-12.
