"Our offense came ready to swing today, and the team's energy was contagious," said head coach Jennifer McFalls. "Everyone contributed, and it was great to see some of our players, like September and Tehya, make such an impact coming back into the lineup."
KU now improves to 19-8 overall and 1-1 in conference. With the Houston series evened up, Kansas will look to carry its dominant performance from Saturday afternoon into tomorrow's game, aiming to claim its first conference series of the season.
How It Happened | vs. Houston
- Kansas threatened early as Presley Limbaugh stole her 10th base of the season, ranking fifth in the conference, to move into scoring position, but Houston retired the next batters to end the top of the first.
- Blakeley Barber made her fifth start in the circle and struck out the first batter swinging before Kansas recorded an infield groundout and a flyout to center, caught by Limbaugh, to close the inning.
- Houston got its first run in the bottom of the second on a shallow hit down the right side, but no other damage was done as Kansas came to bat in the top of the third.
- Kansas got the bats going the third time through the order. Tehya Pitts opened with a single to shallow right, followed by Limbaugh's double to center. Ella Boyer, who has been hot all season, launched the 10th home run of her career to deep center field, clearing the bases and giving the Jayhawks a 3-1 lead.
- The home run day continued for Kansas as Kadence Stafford notched her second home run of the series and fifth of the season, driving in three runs to extend the lead to 6-1.
- Kansas exploded for 10 runs in the fourth inning, keeping its offense rolling. Anna Soles opened the scoring with an RBI single, plating Boyer and moving Hailey Cripe to third. Aynslee Linduff followed with a three-run homer to center field, her second of the game. The hot bats didn't stop there: Ava Wallace was hit by a pitch, Stafford walked, and Campbell Bagshaw crushed a three-run homer, followed by a Tehya Pitts solo shot. Presley Limbaugh singled again, and Boyer added a two-run homer to cap the inning, giving Kansas a 16-1 lead on seven hits with no runners left on base.
- Kansas added to its total in the top of the fifth when September Flanagan homered to deep center field, driving in two more runs and giving the Jayhawks an 18-1 lead. Kansas closed out the inning with a strikeout swinging and two flyouts to earn its first conference win of the season.
