LAWRENCE, Kan. – No. 5-seed Kansas women's tennis will open the Big 12 Tournament against No. 4-seed Arizona in the quarterfinal round on Thursday, April 16 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida. The match is slated to begin at 5 p.m. CT.
Kansas comes into the tournament as the No. 5-seed with a 13-9 record and 9-4 mark in Big 12 play after defeating Kansas State 4-0 on Sunday. The nine conference wins are tied for the most in program history (1997, 1998, 2002). The Jayhawks are also riding a four match winning streak, with all wins being sweeps.Â
Arizona enters the match with a 19-8 record and are 10-3 in conference play this season. The Wildcats are on a nine-match winning streak entering the tournament. Kansas and Arizona played earlier this season on March 29, with Arizona taking the match.
The Jayhawks moved up in this week's team rankings, sitting at No. 36. Kansas has two players ranked in doubles and singles, with Kyoka Kubo ranked at No. 74 in singles with an 11-6 record this season. The 11 singles wins are tied for the team lead with Heike Janse van Vuuren. Kubo joins van Vuuren in the doubles rankings, as they are ranked No. 64. The pair is 5-1 on the season.Â
Van Vuuren is currently 11-7 in singles play. Meg McCarty is 10-4 in doubles play with her partner van Vuuren, and is currently 8-5 in singles action this season. Kubo has joined Meriem Ben Ezzedine in doubles play and has played to an 8-3 record as a pair.
