At what age did you start swimming and how did you get into the sport?
I started swimming competitively at 9 years old solely to ensure that I was safe and comfortable around large bodies of water. However, it didn't take me long to fall in love with the individuality, support and competitive spirit that swimming brings.
What routines do you practice before a big race to help you focus and stay ready?
Going up to the block, I always have my dunks, headphones and water bottle with me. I also always do two "frog jumps" focusing on max height off the ground and being light on my feet.
What is something that someone wouldn't know about you?
I LOVE shoes, especially my dunks.
What sport would you play if you did not swim and why?
I would compete in gymnastics. I love the strength and power, yet beauty and elegance that the sport portrays. I also love flipping around and swinging on bars.
What advice would you give to young athletes who are just starting out in swimming?
Work hard and show up, but remember to give yourself a break. Your best effort may look different everyday and that's okay. Don't expect to be perfect, no one is. We live and we learn, that's the beauty of growing up and becoming a better version of yourself. Put your heart into the sport but don't let it consume you.
Who is a role model in your life that pushed you to be better in and out of the pool?
My club coach has always been my biggest supporter and role model. She has always pushed me to be the very best version of myself.
Why did you choose the University of Kansas?
I chose KU because of the supportive team environment and their program. I felt like KU worked really hard to make sure I felt welcome and taken care of, not only on my recruiting trip but after I committed. I also chose KU because of their medical programs and opportunities which are held to a very high standard compared to other universities.
