Five Jayhawks Qualify for Championship Finals; Kansas in 6th at Hawkeye Invite

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Kansas Swimming and Diving sits in sixth place through two days of the Hawkeye Invite after five championship finalists on Friday at the Campus Recreation & Wellness Center.
Five Jayhawks qualified for the championship final of their respected event and eight competed in the consolation final. After the opening two days, Kansas sits in sixth place with 501 points.
Lydia Lafferty (100 fly), Anna Gearhart (100 fly), Eleni Kotzamanis (200 free), Lezli Sisung (100 back) and Shiyun Lai (3M Dive) all qualified for the championship final of their events. The consolation finalists consisted of Sisung (100 fly), Hailey Farrell (400 IM), Ryan Johnston (100 breast), Molly Robinson (100 breast), Ellie Howe (100 back), Bradie Ward (100 back), Kotzamanis (100 back) and Lize van Leeuwen (3M Dive).
In the 100 fly championship final, Lafferty finished in sixth place at 54.36 and Gearhart followed in eighth at 55.24. In the 200 free championship, Kotzamanis finished sixth with a time of 1:49.20. Sisung finished third in the championship final of the 100 back, posting a time of 54.41. Lai totaled 346.42 points to take second place in the 3M Diving event to lead the Jayhawks.
The second day of the Hawkeye Invite consisted of nine lifetime best times for the Jayhawks. In the prelims, Gearhart (57.51) and Lafferty (56.25) swam lifetime bests in the 100 back. Izzy Satterlee (1:52.88) and Kotzamanis (1:48.90) both tabbed personal bests in the 200 free, while Mia Waldron (56.22) and Izzy Porter (56.02) both swam lifetime bests in the 100 fly.
In the evening session, Porter backed up her original lifetime best in the 100 fly with a time of 55.62. Lafferty did the same in the 100 back, posting a 56.08 for a new lifetime best in that event. Satterlee added another lifetime best as well, this time in the 200 free, racing a time of 1:52.43 to lead off the 800 free relay team.
The third and final day of the Hawkeye invite will conclude on Saturday, Nov. 23.
