LAWRENCE, Kan. – No. 30 Kansas women's tennis team fell to No. 47 Northwestern, 4-3, to close out non-conference play at the Jayhawk Tennis Center on Sunday.
The Jayhawks picked up their first point of the day by winning two out of three doubles matches. Kansas' Gracie Mulville and Heike Janse van Vuuren moved to 8-2 on the season with their 6-3 win over the Wildcats' Britany Lau and Mika Dagan Fruchtman. In No. 2 doubles, Kyoka Kubo and Jasmine Adams defeated Erica Jessel and Sydney Pratt, 7-6 (6), to secure the doubles point for the Jayhawks.Â
Anna Putilina and Yerkezhan Arystanbekova battled Neena Feldman and Kiley Rabjohns in a tight 6-6 match before the match went unfinished.
In singles action, Kansas won the first two matches on courts one and two. In No. 1 singles, No. 102 Mulville defeated Jessel in two sets, 6-2, 6-1, to improve to 6-2 on the season. In No. 2 singles, Maria Titova won in two sets against Dagan Fruchtman, 6-3, 6-1.
Northwestern battled back behind four-straight victories in singles. On court three, Kubo fell to a three-set defeat to Lau, 6-3, 6-7 (5), 0-6. Moments later, Adams dropped court five to Rabjohns, 6-0, 3-6, 6-7 (5).
With Kansas leading 3-2, Northwestern found a pair of wins on courts five and six, as van Vuuren fell to Pratt, 6-7 (2), 6-4, 3-6. With the match on the line, the Wildcats secured the win on court six behind a 7-5, 3-6, 3-6 by Feldman over Putilina.
