LUBBOCK, Texas – Playing in its first Big 12 Conference match of the season, Kansas women's tennis fell to No. 13 Texas Tech, 4-2, at the McLeod Tennis Center in Lubbock, Texas on Friday evening.

The Jayhawks fall to 6-5 on the season and 0-1 in Big 12 Conference play, while the No. 13 Red Raiders improve to 8-1 (1-0 Big 12).

Playing outdoors for the first time this season, Texas Tech claimed the early advantage in doubles play by winning matches on courts one and two. On court one, Kansas' duo of
Heike Janse van Vuuren and
Gracie Mulville fell to No. 5 Mariia Hlahola and Avelina Sayfetdinova, 6-2. Moments later,
Jasmine Adams and
Kyoka Kubo fell to Texas Tech's Kate Dmitrichenko and Hailey Murphy, 6-2.

Kansas'
Yerkezhan Arystanbekova and
Anna Putilina held a 5-3 lead over Texas Tech's No. 76 duo of Andreea Lila and Jermine Sherif before going unfinished.

Trailing 1-0, Texas Tech claimed early wins on courts five and six as Adams fell to Murphy, 6-2, 6-2. The Red Raiders added another point on court six as Kansas'
Meriem Ben Ezzedine dropped the match to Jermine Sherif, 6-1, 6-3.

Texas Tech held a 3-0 lead with all remaining courts heading to the third set. On court four, van Vuuren notched Kansas' first point of the day behind a 6-4, 1-6, 6-0 win over Sayfetdinova.

Kansas continued to battle back with a win on court one as Mulville, ranked No. 102 nationally, took down Sayfetdinova in three sets, 6-1, 2-6, 6-4.

With courts two and three winding down in the third set, Kubo fell to Texas Tech's Dmitrichenko, 6-3, 5-7, 1-6 to give the Red Raiders the win. Titova held a third set lead over Hlahola, 6-2, 4-6, 5-1, before the match went unfinished.
