Bio

Kyle Deween joined the Kansas football staff as a special teams analyst in February of 2024. Deween comes to Kansas after stops at East Carolina and Rice and was a two-year starter under Head Coach Lance Leipold as a punter in Buffalo from 2016-17.

Deween arrived in Kansas following the 2023 season as a special teams analyst at East Carolina. He previously spent the 2022 season at Rice serving as a graduate assistant and working with the special teams unit.

Prior to his move to Houston, Texas, Deween began his coaching career at Houston Christian (2021) as a special teams quality control coach producing a pair of First-Team All-Southland performers in kicker Gino Garcia and punter Brady Buell. Garcia stood fifth nationally in field goal conversions, while Buell averaged 42.37 yards per punt and was a semifinalist for FCS Punter-of-the-Year, highlighted by a school-record 50.9 average on nine punts against New Mexico.

Prior to beginning his coaching career, DeWeen was a two-year starter as a punter at Buffalo in 2016-17 after walking on from Erie Community College. He averaged 40.1 yards on 128 career punts, which ranks second in history at Buffalo, and ranks seventh on the season chart with 72 punts and a 40.61 average.
