Ty Kelly Martin

TITLE Graduate Assistant

Bio

Ty Kelly Martin is a Graduate Assistant for KU Leads, Kansas Athletics student-athlete development program. In this role, she assists in facilitating the growth of leadership skills of student-athletes by serving as a mentor for first year student-athletes through Leadership Academy and additional KU Leads programming. She also aids in building the professional skills of student-athletes through Jayhawk Career Blueprint events and programs by helping with development, outreach, and engagement. Lastly, Ty is a forerunner for social media and creative services for the KU Leads team.

Originally from Plainfield, Illinois, Ty was recruited to become a member of KU’s Rowing Team from 2019 to 2023, and earned a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science and minor in Sport Management. She is currently pursuing a Masters in Sport Management at Kansas and is expected to graduate in May 2025.

As a student-athlete, she earned Academic All-Big 12 First Team in 2022 and 2023. Ty was also immersed in all that KU Leads has to offer, and was an active member in student-led groups such as Redefine Inspire Support and Empower (R.I.S.E), a group for minority student-athletes, as well as the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) serving in the Diversity and Inclusion Subcommittee. During her time at KU, Ty was selected to attend the Black Student Athlete Summit hosted in Houston, TX in May 2022, where she began to find her love of DEIB initiatives and Student-Athlete Development.
