Kansas rowing adds Rachelle Pauly to coaching staff

LAWRENCE, Kan. – University of Kansas rowing head coach Rob Catloth announced the hiring of new assistant coach Rachelle Pauly on Tuesday. Pauly will be primarily responsible for the recruitment of in-state new rowers along with coaching the Blue Group Novice boat.

“Rachelle has great experiences as both a rower and a teacher – teaching is huge when we are working with new rowers in our program,” Catloth said. “What she is going to bring to the table is going to be very helpful for us just in those newcomers picking it up fast. She has great network of relationships with high school coaches in the area, which will help us immensely with in-state recruiting.”

The Greensburg, Kansas native joins Catloth, and fellow assistant coaches Carrie Cook-Callen and Kelsie Arnold after the NCAA has allowed an additional coach for women’s rowing starting with the 2016-17 season.

Pauly was a member of the Kansas rowing team from 2007-2011 where she rowed for numerous different boats including the Novice boat, the Second Varsity Eight and the First Varsity Four. Pauly’s time at KU was highlighted by a win over Kansas State for the Kansas Cup her junior year and finishing second in the Big 12 Championship. Pauly served as team captain during her senior year.

“My time as a rowing student-athlete at Kansas was such a formative experience in my life and I am looking forward helping provide those opportunities for rowers moving forward as a coach,” Pauly said of returning to coach at her alma mater. “I can’t wait to get back to the water and help build a faster rowing team.”

In addition to her rowing expertise, Pauly brings previous coaching and teaching experience to the team. Following her undergraduate studies in education and post-graduate studies in curriculum and teaching – both at KU – Pauly utilized her degrees to teach middle school and high school mathematics in the Tonganoxie school district (2012-15) and algebra at Chisholm Trail Middle School in the Olathe school district (2015-16).

While teaching at Tonganoxie High School, Pauly spent her time as the head girls track coach and assistant girls’ volleyball and basketball coach. Additionally, she has had experience as the head coach for the eighth-grade girls’ volleyball team and assistant eight-grade girls’ basketball and track team at Tonganoxie Middle School.

Along with coaching rowing at KU, Pauly currently assists in coaching girls’ volleyball and track at Chisholm Trail Middle school. To add to her repertoire, Pauly has spent a year as the girls’ athletic director at Camp Lenox in 2014 and has coached club volleyball for the Midwest Juniors located in Wellsville, Kansas.
