SPORTING NEWS #

Sporting News National Player of the Year
FRANK MASON III
Mike DeCourcy: “As is the case with the KU greats he will join in the Allen (Fieldhouse) rafters, he is entering some staggering company, from Oscar Robertson to Pete Maravich, from Bill Walton to Phil Ford, from Patrick Ewing to Tim Duncan and Kenyon Martin to Buddy Hield.”

Sporting News All-America
First Team: FRANK MASON III (unanimous)
Mike DeCourcy: “Mason’s consistency was staggering. He almost never had a bad night, which is the primary reason Kansas lost only three times.”

Second Team: JOSH JACKSON
Mike DeCourcy: “Jackson’s developing shooting skill and his elite athleticism made him nearly impossible for collegians to defend one-on-one.”

Sporting News Freshman All-America
JOSH JACKSON (unanimous)
Ryan Fagan: “Jackson’s improved play the second half of the season is a reason you’ll see lots of people pick Kansas to win the national championship … He was another easy unanimous choice for this squad.”

# – NCAA CONSENSUS [NCAA.org]

NCAA Consensus All-America First Team
FRANK MASON III (12 points, unanimous)

The NCAA compiles consensus All-America using a point system computed from at least four different All-America teams named by coaches associations or media sources — Associated Press (AP), the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) and Sporting News. The point system consists of three points for first team, two points for second team and one point for third team. No points for honorable mention, or fourth team or lower selections, are used in the computation. In men’s basketball, the teams are not compiled by position so the top five players in points are named first team consensus All-American and the next five are named second team consensus All-American. Mason scored the maximum of 12 points in the NCAA Consensus All-America computation as a first-team honoree by all four organizations.

SENIOR CLASS AWARD

Senior CLASS Award Finalist
FRANK MASON III

CBS SPORTS

CBS Sports Player of the Year
FRANK MASON III
Matt Norlander: “Kansas won 31 games, some in dramatic comeback fashion, with Mason as the catalyst. The Big 12 rated, per multiple computer metrics, as the toughest conference in the country. Yet Kansas won it by four games, earned a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament and made the Elite Eight … he’s now, without question, among the best players in Jayhawks history.”

CBS Sports All-America
First Team: FRANK MASON III
Second Team: JOSH JACKSON

USA TODAY

USA TODAY National Player of the Year
FRANK MASON III
Nicole Auerbach: “Kansas coach Bill Self knows a thing or two about history, and he means what he says when he says this: Frank Mason III’s jersey will someday hang from the rafters of Allen Fieldhouse, one of the most historic gymnasiums in the country that houses one of the most storied programs in all of college basketball.”

USA TODAY All-America
First Team: FRANK MASON III
Nicole Auerbach: “Perhaps most impressive: Just how consistently excellent Mason has been this year, as a senior, starting with a 30-point effort against Indiana and a buzzer-beater to beat Duke to open the year and 16 other games in which he scored at least 20 points.”

Second Team: JOSH JACKSON

BLEACHER REPORT

Bleacher Report National Player of the Year
FRANK MASON III
C.J. Moore: “The last time a major-conference player pulled off what Mason is threatening to do was Duke’s Christian Laettner in 1991-92. The Blue Devil great averaged 21.5 points and shot 55.7 percent from distance his senior season. Laettner swept the National Player of the Year awards. Mason should too.”

NBC SPORTS

NBC Sports National Player of the Year
FRANK MASON III (unanimous)
Rob Dauster: “Frank Mason III wasn’t just the obvious pick, it was the consensus pick … He led the charge in the two biggest Kansas comebacks this season — coming from 14 points down in the final three minutes against West Virginia, or six points down in the final two minutes at Baylor — and was the guy who had the ball in his hands on the biggest possessions of a close game.”

NBC Sports All-America
First Team: FRANK MASON III (unanimous)
Rob Dauster: “Mason has been unbelievable this season. He’s the heart and soul of a Kansas team that is currently No. 1 in the country and that just won the Big 12, the toughest conference in the country, according to KenPom, by four games.”

Second Team: JOSH JACKSON
Rob Dauster: “His ability to slide to the four has allowed Kansas to play small-ball, and that, in turn, is what has made this team so dangerous.”

SPORTS ILLUSTRATED

Sports Illustrated All-Glue Team
LANDEN LUCAS
Seth Davis: “His ability to hold down the fort—and the paint— is a major reason why Kansas won its 13th consecutive Big 12 title and is ranked No. 1 in the country.”
