Overview: An athletic player who should be an immediate contributor at many positions… Bill Self described him as [quote]very bouncy and very athletic[quote] and compared him to former KU and current NBA player Julian Wright… Has played two seasons in NCAA Division I at Loyola-Marymount then sat out the 2010-11 season, graduating from San Bernardino (Calif.) Community College… Also has international experience as he played for Puerto Rico in the 2009 U19 World Championships.

Junior Season (2011-12): Played in 38 of 39 games as a junior… Became the Jayhawks[apos] key sixth man as the season progressed… Averaged 11.4 minutes, 3.4 points, 3.0 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game… Scored a season-high 14 points in the victory over then-ranked No. 2 Ohio State (12/10)… Pulled down a season-high eight rebounds on two different occasions with the most recent versus North Carolina (3/25) in the Elite Eight… Played a season-high 28 minutes and blocked a season-high four shots versus Missouri (2/25) in the come from behind win… Tallied 13 points, seven rebounds, two blocks, two steals and two assists in just 14 minutes of action in his Kansas debut versus Towson (11/11)… Recorded multiple steals in six different contests… Pulled down seven or more rebounds in five games… Played 11 minutes in the National Championship versus Kentucky and tallied three rebounds and a block.

Sophomore Season (2009-10 at LMU): Played in all 34 games for the Lions, starting in 31… Fourth on the team in scoring, averaging 10.7 ppg… Shot best field goal percentage among starters at 52.7 percent (146-of-277)… Ranked 13th in the WCC in rebounding, collecting 5.3 rpg… Season high in scoring came against Saint Mary[apos]s (1/30) when he scored 27 points off of 9-of-19 shooting… Notched a double-double against Wyoming (12/5), scoring 16 points and collecting 12 rebounds.

2009 U19 World Championships: Young, whose mother is Puerto Rican, was named to the official roster for the Puerto Rico U19 Team and played in the 2009 U19 World Championship in Auckland, New Zealand, July 2-12, 2009… Puerto Rico finished in sixth place with a 5-4 record, a five-win improvement from the year prior… Young averaged 23 minutes per contest, going for 7.7 points, 5.0 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game, while shooting 55.2 percent from the field… His best game was a double-double performance against Lithuania, going for 18 points, 12 rebounds and five steals.

Freshman Season (2008-09 at Loyola Marymount): Broke the LMU school freshman rebounds (224) and rebounds per game (7.2 rpg) records with 224 boards for 7.2 rpg… Also set the LMU freshman record with 34 blocked shots and 51 steals… His 19 rebounds against New Mexico State broke the single-game freshman record as well… Had third double-double of career with 21 points and 12 rebounds against No. 23 Gonzaga.

High School: Graduated from Perris High School of the Sun Belt League, helping his team go 25-7 overall and 10-0 in league play and leading his team to the CIF-SS Division 3 finals where it lost to league-rival Hemet West Valley… Finished his senior season averaging 16.1 points, 10.8 rebounds and 3.7 blocks… His final year of high school included three triple doubles as he totaled 499 points, 335 rebounds, 114 blocks, 66 assists and 59 steals on the season… He scored more than 20 points six times, including a career-best 31 on two occasions… He was named First-Team All-Division IIIA… Also ran track and cross country at Perris.
