Jayhawks Ring In New Year With Holiday Clinic

Jan. 1, 2012

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Nearly 300 youngsters spent New Year’s Day with the University of Kansas women’s basketball team as the Jayhawks hosted their annual Holiday Hoops Clinic Sunday. Kindergarten through eighth graders participated in drills with current KU players and coaches.

The kids, with some of their parents taking up the invitation to join them, used Naismith Court in Allen Fieldhouse, the practice facility court and the HorejsiFamilyAthleticsCenter to accommodate the large numbers. After a group stretch, participants rotated through seven stations that included instruction on passing, shooting, dribbling and defense. The two hour clinic concluded with an autograph and picture session with KU players.

Kansas, 11-1 on the season, will open the 2012 portion of its schedule on Wednesday, Jan. 4, when it travels to Texas for both teams’ Big 12 Conference opener. The contest begins at 8 p.m. and will be broadcast on the Jayhawk Radio Network. The Jayhawks then return home on Saturday, Jan. 7 to host in-state rival KansasState at 7 p.m.
