The Big 12 Conference announced the 2019-20 Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team on Wednesday, with a total of 856 student-athletes earning the distinction. Kansas had 73 student-athletes on the list, and 13 of the Jayhawks’ recipients earned perfect 4.0 grade point averages in the past year.
Redshirt sophomore Sydnee Ramsey started all 26 games at shortstop for KU. She finished the season second on the team with five home runs and 21 RBI. Her .329 batting average was fourth overall on the Jayhawks roster.
Senior Shelby Hughston spent the final two seasons of her collegiate career with the Jayhawks. She appeared in 55 games with 53 starts over those two years. She finished with 12 RBI and 12 runs scored.
Senior Kirsten Pruett has been with the Jayhawks for the past two seasons serving as an arm on the KU pitching staff. She appeared in 18 games in those two seasons where she pitched 30.2 innings and struck out 16 batters.
Junior Tarin Travieso appeared in 15 games for the Jayhawks, including 12 starts in left field. She finished the 2020 season as one of seven players to have a batting average over .300 (10-for-33 for .303).
