Jan. 5, 2010

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Newly hired Kansas Head Football Coach Turner Gill completed his first Jayhawk coaching staff and announced those hires on Tuesday. Among the group are two former KU assistant coaches.

Joining Gill’s staff are J.B. Grimes (offensive line), Reggie Mitchell (running backs/recruiting coordinator), Vic Shealy (cornerbacks), Robert Wimberly (safeties) Buddy Wyatt (defensive line) and Darrell Wyatt (co-offensive coordinator/wide receivers). Mitchell and Darrell Wyatt both coached previously at KU.

These assistants join three coaches who were announced on Dec. 14, the day Gill was hired. Those original hires were Chuck Long (offensive coordinator/quarterbacks), Carl Torbush (defensive coordinator/linebackers) and Aaron Stamn (tight ends/special teams coordinator).

“This is a phenomenal staff, which has a passion to develop the skills for life and football for student-athletes,” Gill said. “We will make sure each student-athlete, by the end of his career, reaches his full potential on and off the field.”

The 10 full-time staff members, including Gill, have combined to coach 213 seasons and 72 bowl games at the collegiate level. Four members of the staff have spent a combined 15 years as a college head coach.

“As people look at this staff, it is noticeable the vast experience the group has and the excellence they have achieved in their coaching careers,” Gill said.
