Rowing Recruiting Open House Planned

Jan. 12, 2013

Lawrence, Kan. – The Kansas rowing team is hosting an open house for high school junior and senior girls interested in rowing at KU. Girls interested need not have prior rowing experience. The open house starts at 9:30 am on Sunday, February 24. Those interested can register online by clicking the link above. Athletes are asked to pre-register by February 15.

The recruiting open house will begin with tours of the Kansas Boathouse located at 200 Indiana Street in Burnham Park in Lawrence. The program will include information presented by KU coaches and current rowers. The day will conclude with the group enjoying the KU Women’s Basketball game vs. Texas Tech at Allen Fieldhouse. The basketball game is scheduled to tip-off at noon.

Rowing has been a varsity sport at KU since 1995 and averages about 75 team members each year. The team is comprised of two squads: the Returning Squad, which is for second, third, and fourth year rowers and the Novice Squad, which is for rowers in their first year of collegiate competition. The vast majority of Novices have no previous rowing experience.

Both squads are varsity athletes at KU and enjoy all the benefits that the Athletic Department offers including academic advising and tutoring, training room and weight room access, and workout and racing apparel.
