Swimming and Diving Falls to Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. – The University of Kansas swimming and diving team lost to Nebraska, 180-120, in a Big 12 Conference dual meet, Saturday in Lincoln, Neb. The loss dropped the Jayhawks’ dual meet record this season to 4-5 and 0-4 in Big 12 duals. The meet consisted of 16 events including one and three-meter diving competitions.

Senior Amy Gruber highlighted the meet for the Jayhawks as she won three individual events. The Bigelow, Ark., native won the 50 freestyle (23.94), the 100 freestyle (51.96) and the 100 butterfly (56.43) events. Gruber also teamed up with senior Aly Colver, and freshmen Anne Liggett and Terri Schramka to win the 400 freestyle relay in a time of 3:32.31. Schramka also picked up an individual win in the 100 backstroke with a time of 59.04.

The Jayhawks also received a strong performance from senior Miranda Isaac. The Hutchinson, Kan., native recorded two individual victories in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:05.85 and in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:21.35. Junior Gina Gnatzig picked up another Kansas individual win in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:06.44. In diving competition, sophomore Shelby Noonan was the top placer for the Jayhawks in the both the three-meter competition, where she finished second, and the one-meter as she finished in third.

The Jayhawks will next be in action when they host Truman State in a non-conference dual meet at 6 p.m., Jan. 21, in Lawrence, Kan.
