LAWRENCE, Kan. –

The University of Kansas men’s and women’s track and field teams hit the road this weekend for the Husker Invitational in Lincoln, Neb. The two-day meet begins tomorrow, Feb. 3, and wraps up on Saturday, Feb. 4. The competition, which will be held in the same facility that will host the Big 12 Indoor Championship, will not be team scored.

The first day of competition features primarily multi-events and preliminary heats for track events, but the finals for the 5,000-meter run and the men’s and women’s long jump and weight throw will be held in addition to the entire women’s pentathlon. Saturday will hold the other competitions, culminating with the men’s 4×400-meter relay race at 6:30 p.m.

The Jayhawks had a great showing at last week’s Jayhawk Invitational in Lawrence. KU had multiple victories on the day, including the women’s 60-meter dash by Tiffany Cherry in a time of 7.51 seconds. The Jayhawks also swept the top three spots in the men’s 800-meter run, with Michael Rost winning the race in a time of 1:53.34.

Following this weekend’s Husker Invitational, the KU track and field teams will head to both the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., and the ISU Classic in Ames, Iowa, next week.
