KANSAS’ LOSS:

  • Ended KU’s NCAA-leading win streak at 18 games
  • Ended KU’s homecourt win streak at 33 games, which was the second-longest in the nation (Syracuse, 35)
  • Handed Kansas its first loss at home since losing to Texas 74-63 (1/22/11) – a span of 79 total games
  • Gave KU its first regular-season Big 12 loss since losing at Missouri, 74-71 (2/4/12)
  • Marked just the eighth loss in Allen Fieldhouse during head coach Bill Self’s 10 years at Kansas.
  • Made Kansas 19-2 on the season and 7-1 in Big 12 Conference play
  • Ended a four-game win streak against Oklahoma State and its 16- game win streak against the Cowboys in Allen Fieldhouse (Jan. 13, 1990)

TEAM NOTES:

  • Kansas outscored Oklahoma State 11-7 in the final minute, highlighted by six points in 39 seconds from freshman G Andrew White III.
  • KU’s 14-point deficit in the first half (26-12, 10:58) marked KU’s largest of the season (previously 12 vs. Chattanooga, 11/15/12).
  • Kansas was held without a field goal for nearly four minutes in the first half (16:53-13:01), giving Oklahoma State room to go on an 11-0 run – all 11 of those points came from guards Markel Brown and Marcus Smart.
  • In the first half alone, Brown and Smart combined for 32 of the Cowboys’ 40 points. Only three other players even scored in the opening frame (Michael Cobbins, 4; Philip Jurick, 2; Le’Bryan Nash, 2).
  • OSU’s Brown’s seven three-pointers were a career-high. His 28 points were a season-high (30 career). Brown’s 7-for-10 three-point shooting is the best by a Jayhawk opponent since Alex Kragel of UNC-Asheville went 7-for-10 from behind the arc on Jan. 2, 2003.
  • Trailing 29-16, Kansas broke loose for a 7-0 run in less than two minutes (8:06-6:32). The Jayhawks did so again toward the end of the half, putting together another 7-0 run (2:59-1:13).
  • Despite an Oklahoma State-dominated first half, both squads had 13 field goals to their credit by halftime (KU, 13-for-38; OSU, 13-for-34).
  • Redshirt freshman G Ben McLemore hit a three-pointer at the 15:16 mark in the second half (46-45), KU’s first advantage since leading 9-8 in the first half.
  • Kansas grabbed 41 rebounds to Oklahoma State’s 40. KU has outrebounded 18 of 21 opponents in 2012-13.
  • The eight offensive rebounds by OSU freshman G Marcus Smart are the most by a Kansas opponent since Richard Howell of NC State grabbed nine on March 23, 2012. It’s the most in a conference game since Justin Hamilton of Iowa State grabbed eight on Feb. 13, 2010.
  • Kansas was out-shot (43 percent/41 percent) for only the third time this season (vs. Michigan State, at Texas).
  • Kansas shot 52.2 percent (12-for-23) in the second half, marking the 18th time KU has shot 50 percent or better for a half this season.

INDIVIDUAL NOTES:

  • Two of the league’s top-three freshmen scorers squared off as Kansas’ Ben McLemore leads the rookies (16.1 ppg) and Oklahoma State’s Marcus Smart is third (13.6 ppg) – what resulted was a career-high tying 25 points for Smart and 23 for McLemore.
  • Redshirt freshman G Ben McLemore’s 23 points marked the ninth-straight contest he has scored in double-digits, and his sixth 20-point game of the year.
  • McLemore opened the second half hitting his first five shots. He went 6-for-8 from the field, and hit both threes and both free throws he attempted in the final 20 minutes.
  • McLemore was the first Jayhawk in double-digits, which didn’t occur until the 19:10 mark in the second half.
  • Senior G Travis Releford has contributed eight points, marking the first time in 16 games the senior did not score in double figures.
  • Releford was scoreless at halftime for the first time since the Chattanooga game (11/15/12).
  • Ranked first and second in the Big 12 from the free throw line, McLemore and Releford combined to shoot 100 percent (4-for-4).
  • Senior G Elijah Johnson dished out six assists, giving him 332 for his career and moving him past Jayhawk Tony Guy (327) for 18th on KU’s career assist list. Next on the list is Jayhawk legend Danny Manning (17th, 342).
  • Senior C Jeff Withey’s three blocks moved him past Cole Aldrich for second on the KU career block shot list leaving him just four rejections away from tying KU’s all-time record (258, Greg Ostertag).
  • For the just the third time this season, senior F Kevin Young scored the Jayhawks’ first points – and for the second time this season, the first points came from the free throw line (2-for-2, 18:43).
  • Redshirt freshman F Jamari Traylor tied his career-high with five rebounds.
  • Young is the only Jayhawk to have a steal in every Big 12 game this season. He collected a career-high tying four more on Saturday. His 15 steals in league play leads the team.
  • After not playing the first 39 minutes, freshman G Andrew White III hit a clutch three-pointer in the final minute of the game; his first three in 12 games (last vs. Belmont, 12/15/12).
