Sophomore catcher Buck Afenir went 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs, while junior John Allman added a two-run triple as the University of Kansas completed a five-game sweep of Hawaii-Hilo, 9-2, Sunday afternoon at Simmons Field.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

The Jayhawks improve to 5-0 on the season, while the Vulcans drop to 0-9.

Afenir, who hit four home runs all of last year, took an 0-1 pitch deep to center field in the top of the fifth. He also had an RBI double earlier in the game to match a career-high with three RBIs.

Nine different Jayhawks collected hits in the contest. Junior Joe Servais had a two-run single in the third inning and Allman added a two-run triple in the fourth.

Junior Erik Morrison and sophomore Preston Land also had RBI-hits in the game.

Starting pitcher Andres Equibel scattered eight hits over five innings, allowing two runs for his first victory of the season. The junior righty struck out four, while walking just one.

KU will play host to South Dakota State in a three-game series, beginning Friday at 3 p.m. at Hoglund Ballpark.
