Krysten Boogaard Named Phillips 66 Big 12 Rookie Of The Week

Feb. 4, 2008

IRVING, Texas – Kansas freshman center Krysten Boogaard was chosen Rookie of the Week by a media voting panel for games of Jan. 28-Feb. 3. Boogaard was recognized for the first time in her Jayhawk career.

Boogaard led Kansas to a win over Iowa State with 20 points, 12 rebounds, three blocks and two steals. She scored 11 of the Jayhawks’ first 13 points of the game and had four of the team’s final six points to help seal the victory.

The Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada native made 8-of-10 shots from the field versus ISU and 4-of-7 shots from the foul line. Her 20 points and 12 rebounds marked her second double-double of the season. Her 12 rebounds were a career-best and her 20-point outing was the second of her career.

Boogaard had 11 points, eight rebounds and a career-best four blocks versus Oklahoma. The 6-5 forward knocked down 4-of-7 field goals and 3-of-6 foul shots, while holding OU All-American Courtney Paris to 10 points on 4-of-11 shooting from the field. She has now recorded three or more blocks in five of the last six games, while also posting double digits in scoring in three of those contests.

For the week, Boogaard made 12-of-17 shots from the field on her way to a 15.5 points per game average. She also averaged 10.0 boards and 3.5 blocks during the two games.

Boogaard is the second Jayhawk this season to earn Rookie of the Week honors as fellow freshman Nicollette Smith picked up the honor for the week of Nov. 5-11. She is also the fourth KU player to earn the honor in the last two seasons as both Danielle McCray and Kelly Kohn were honored as Rookie of the Week last season.

The Jayhawks will return to the court on Saturday, Feb. 9, when they travel to in-state rival Kansas State. Tip-off between the Jayhawks and Wildcats is slated for 1 p.m. in Bramlage Coliseum.
