ENSENADA, Mexico –

The University of Kansas women’s golf team completed its first tournament of the spring season in a tie for ninth place with a two-round score of 639 (322-317) Tuesday at the Baja Invitational in Ensenada, Mexico. The final round was cancelled due to a fog and darkness delay.

The Jayhawks improved five spots from 14th place after round two at the Bajamar golf course (par-72,6,094) to a ninth-place tie with North Texas.

Senior Amanda Costner tied for 32nd place after two rounds with 158 (81-77), while freshman Meghan Gockel tied for 39th place, two shots behind Costner, with a two-round score of 160 (77-83).

Junior Annie Giangrosso (83-79) and freshman Camilla Svensson (81-81) both tied for 47th place with a score of 162. Freshman Emily Powers tied for 69th with 167 shots (87-80).

Oregon finished first in team competition with 609 (298-311), while Louisville placed second with a score of 613 (305-308). Oregon’s Kimberly McCready took top honors individually with 145 (70-75).

The Jayhawks next compete at the Florida State Chrysler Challenge, Feb. 24-26, in Destin, Fla.
