Sophomore hurler Sarah Vertelka, who entered in the third inning for freshman Allie Clark, kept the Redbirds hitless through 7.1 innings as she tabbed her third win of the season. The right hander struck out six batters and allowed just one run, unearned, to keep her season ERA at 0.00.

Kansas scattered seven hits throughout the game. Junior Val Chapple led KU with three hits in four at-bats. Junior outfielder Dougie McCaulley added two hits of her own and junior Elle Pottorf and Jobe each added one a piece. Pottorf and Jobe also finished with one and two RBIs, respectively, while senior Betsy Wilson batter her first run of the season in.

The Redbirds took advantage of three KU errors in the fifth inning to tie the game at 3-3. ILS limited Kansas to just two hits during the remainder of the contest, including Jobe’s game-winner in the 10th inning.

Kansas scored all three of its first runs in the bottom of the second when four Jayhawks took ball four for an easy trip down to first. Chapple hit KU’s first hit of the day into left field to reach base safely, while Pottorf brought in KU’s third run on a hard-hit grounder to the shortstop.
