Future Jayhawk Perry Ellis Named McDonald's All-American

Feb. 10, 2012

LAWRENCE, Kan. – For the ninth time under Kansas head coach Bill Self a McDonald’s All-American will join the University of Kansas basketball team. Perry Ellis, a forward from Wichita, Kan., was named a McDonald’s All-American Thursday evening.

He is one of 24 players selected to play in the prestigious event and he will represent the East team. This year marks the 35th annual McDonald’s All-American game, which will be played on March 28 in Chicago, Ill., at the United Center.

Ellis is the 32nd Jayhawk to be named a McDonald’s All-American. Former McDonald’s All-Americans and KU greats Danny Manning and Paul Pierce will be recognized at this year’s game as they were named to the “35 Greatest McDonald’s All-American List”.

Ellis, a senior at Wichita Heights High School, signed his letter of intent on Nov. 9, 2011 to play his college basketball at KU. The 6-foot-8, 220 pound forward recently passed former KU center Greg Dreiling as the all-time leading scorer in Wichita City League history. Dreiling’s record stood for 31 years at 1,888 career points.

As a junior, Ellis averaged 22.1 points and 7.9 rebounds per game, while leading his team to its second-straight undefeated season and third-straight 6A state championship. He is a three-time Kansas Gatorade Player of the Year.
