University of Kansas outfielder Kyle Murphy has been named to the College Baseball Foundation National Honor Roll. The foundation recognizes several baseball players each week for their outstanding efforts on the field.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

Murphy, a 5-foot-11 senior from Beloit, Wis., was named to the team after batting .381 in KU’s first eight games of the season. The Jayhawks’ center fielder went 5-for-10 in last weekend’s series at the Metrodome and collected a pair of stolen bases and four runs scored as KU took two-of-three from South Dakota State.

In 98 at-bats last season, Murphy had just nine extra base hits. He already has two doubles, a triple and a home run in 21 at-bats this year.

Murphy’s efforts have helped the Jayhawks open the season with a 7-1 record. KU will play host to North Dakota State in a three-game series, beginning Sunday at 3 p.m. at Hoglund Ballpark.
