Kansas Postgame Quotes
Nebraska 65, Kansas 57
February 15, 2006

Head Coach Bonnie Henrickson
On the game:

“Everytime we would make a run at them (Nebraska) they seemed to counter with a big shot. Give them credit for showing great poise even when they had some key players in foul trouble. Giving up three three-pointers to Kiera Hardy to open the game was definitely not in the game plan. We made some good adjustments for the second-straight game defensively, but we allowed some of their third, fourth, and fifth offensive options to really hurt us. We could have won three or four more games if we had done some little things defensively when our offense wasn’t there. We just have to keep fighting.”

On lack of production outside of the seniors:
“Right now we have to find some production other than our three seniors and we haven’t been able to find that. Our failure to finish at the rim either with lay-ups or offensive rebounds has been really glaring.”

Senior Forward Crystal Kemp
On the last 10 minutes:

“It was hard to maneuver in the last 10 minutes, but I could have worked a lot harder to get the ball. They (Nebraska) were sagging off; it was good defense on their end.”

On the season:
“I think that we are putting out the effort. I don’t think fatigue is the cause of our losses. We need to go out there and be able play hard for 40 minutes, and that’s everyone out there on the court. I am out there giving it my all.”

On the team’s position in the Big 12:
“I thought we’d be in a little bit better position in the Big 12, but unfortunately we are not. We are just going to try and put everything behind us and take it one game at a time. We have four games left to try and get it right.”

On Nebraska’s defense:
“I think they (Nebraska) were sagging off the other post a few times. Somebody else was on my back side to discourage me. Credit to them on their defense.”

On starting 12-0:
“It doesn’t affect us. It is just kind of dissapointing to know that we lost what we had at the beginning of the season, and we need to do what we can to get it back.”

Senior Guard Kaylee Brown
On the season:

“It seems kind of frustrating right now because we get a win and three losses, a win and three losses. We just need to get on a winning streak. We need to figure out a way to do that.”

On Nebraska matching her threes in the second half:
“Of course it is a momentum killer. It is poor defense on our part. We just need to make our runs bigger and not let them kill our runs.”

Junior Guard Sharita Smith
On stepping up in the absence of Shaquina Mosley:
“I treat practice the same. I just go out there and work hard. I have stepped up my game up defensively. I try to work hard off the court to improve my defense.”

Iowa State Junior Guard Kiera Hardy
On comparing Kansas to the last time the two teams squared off:

“I think they had a little more heart tonight. They had heart in January too, but they wanted it a lot tonight and they played a hard game. Nothing was easy for tonight for me or any of my teammates. I give them credit, they are going to be good in the future.”

On the game:
“We played as a team tonight. Danielle Page stepped up tonight, Jessica Gerhart stepped up and we won it as a team.”
