Senior ace Kassie Humphreys hit a home run and pitched seven scoreless innings Friday night to help Kansas to a 1-0 win over No. 22/22 Florida State in the Sunshine State Tournament. With the win at JoAnne Graf Field, the Jayhawks improved to 3-3-1 overall while the Seminoles (6-1) suffered their first loss.

Humphreys (3-0) struck out six, walked three and allowed just two hits in seven complete innings for the win. FSU ace Tiffany McDonald (2-1) fanned 14 Jayhawks, walked three and gave up three hits in the complete-game effort.

Crisosto notched KU’s first triple of the season off the very top of the right field wall in the first inning, missing a home run by inches.

Sophomore Dougie McCaulley laid down a slap single to start the third inning. Ramirez bunted and reached first safely after being nailed in the back of the helmet by the FSU catcher’s throw (error) and McCaulley advanced to third. Ramirez stole second but the Jayhawks could not bring in the two in scoring position, posting two strikeouts and a ground out to end the inning.

The Seminoles advanced a runner to third in the bottom of the fourth, but Humphreys retired Alicart with a convincing change up to end the inning.

With one out in the top of the seventh, Humphreys, batting in the No. 9 spot, took her first pitch deep over the left wall for her first home run of the season and eventual game-winner.

The Jayhawks wrap up tournament play Saturday against <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>Jacksonville at 10:30 a.m. and Memphis at 4:30 p.m. (Central).
